Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa Penang is the jewel in the crown beneath a majestic canopy and also the winner of the Best Hotel Services for 5 Star Resort in the Malaysia Tourism Awards 2012 / 2013 by Tourism Malaysia.
The resort is replete with a sense of history, place and tradition. Its distinctive Minangkabau architecture houses even more artefacts of Malaysian culture. Feast on the artfully-arranged traditional jewellery, batik-printing moulds, coral sculpture, and signature items from the prolific Malaysian kitchen. With so much cultural history, it’s no surprise that Penang’s capital, Georgetown, has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
CHI, The Spa, at Shangri-La, draws inspiration from the origins of the Shangri-La legend, a place of personal peace, enchantment and well-being. Set within a secluded corner of the resort enclosed by soaring centuries-old rain trees and beside a tranquil seashore, CHI, The Spa, offers 11 spa villas and a yoga pavilion. Decorated in distinctive CHI style, the spa design also incorporates indigenous Malay and Peranakan influences in its rich timber wood flooring and stone walls. The spa menu includes Chinese and Malay treatments. Each of the spacious villas is equipped with a private changing room, a treatment room and a private garden, all surrounded by 30 acres of lush gardens. Outdoor rain showers are available in selected villas.
In traditional Chinese philosophy, ch’i or "Qi" is the universal life force that governs well-being and personal vitality. For good health to be maintained, it is believed that ch’i must flow freely within the body and, when blocked, "disease" and illness follow. Movement is therefore a key element in releasing blockages. Body massage, exercise, stretching, hydrotherapy, and movement of the mind through relaxation and meditation combine to assist the body's natural renewal and form the basis of the CHI spa philosophy
The spa programme is specially tailored. But it is only the beginning of what the resort can offer. Heading for the Par 3 Executive Golf Course, the 9-hole layout is extremely well-crafted and beautifully landscaped. With holes ranging from 25 metres to 64 meters, golfer can play with just a pitching wedge and a putter. There is also a practise green and a small reception area to house putters, wedges, balls and tees.
The Garden Wing rooms have been refurbished to reflect the surrounding beauty of the resort. Earth tones, a citrus palette and hues of blue have been added to draw the beauty of nature into the rooms, giving them a fresh, spacious and airy ambience. As part of the resort's efforts to become greener, all 189 guestrooms and suites are equipped with LED lights and energy-saving key cards. The wing boasts nine different room types to choose from. These guestrooms and suites range from 42 sqm to 114 sqm. Each room comes with a balcony and offers a view of the gardens, pool or sea.
On the other hand, designed with the sophisticated traveller in mind, the Rasa Wing is set amidst the lush Shangri-La gardens with a separate driveway and entrance, featuring some of the most elegant and spacious accommodations in Penang. The Rasa Wing offers guests a choice of 115 guest rooms, with each room offering a different view, depending on its location. As a guest of the Rasa Wing, you will have access to the exclusive Rasa Wing swimming. Alternatively, the Main Pool, located near the Garden Wing, which is designed for families, is also accessible to Rasa Wing guests. For the privacy and comfort of our in-house guests, children should be supervised at all times to preserve the quiet and restful ambience of the Rasa Wing Lounge, particularly during Afternoon High Tea.
The resort is an ideal location for executive retreats, conferences and incentive group gatherings. The Pelangi Ballroom has been intelligently linked to 14 other variously sized meeting and function rooms, and can accommodate 400 people for a banquet. The ballroom has direct access to the car park area.
